You’ll never look at your bookshelves the same. … or wherever else you decide to place these uncannily adept JBL® loudspeakers. As part of the new 10-piece JBL Studio 2 loudspeaker series, the Studio 220 bookshelf speaker was built to speak the languages of both legacy sound and forward-thinking technology. Tested relentlessly in the world’s most advanced sound research lab – our own – as well as pitted against competitors in real world comparative listening studies, we’ve engineered this loudspeaker to go above and beyond. We incorporated a front-firing 4” PolyPlas midrange speaker and a rear-firing Slipstream bass port that envelop listeners in tight, accurate bass. We always could have stopped there – but that’s not the JBL way. We took other design cues from our work building the world’s most legendary recording studios, giving our Studio 220 the kind of performance sound normally found at cinemas and multiplexes: a 1” CMMD® Lite high-frequency driver that ensures low-distortion, and a High Definition Imaging (HDI) waveguide design that offers pinpoint sound imaging and studio-grade balance. Then we topped it off with seductive features like gloss black paneling, soft rounded edges, and your choice of either Black or Espresso wood-grain finish. We ran wild with sound and vision, combining the power and precision of high-tech audio with the sleek urbanity of “it-factor” design. For those able to hear the truth, we’re confident you’ll hear it full volume – at first listen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look and sound great! Bought these to replace a set of G5s' as the rear surround, surprised at the increase in sound quality. Match the rest of my JBL system perfectly. Very happy with the transaction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from shocking Have always liked JBL. In the past 4 years I've tried some other brands...hi and low end stuff. Got these because they look so good. The shock factor came from the rich full range. Just a well made and great sounding speaker. Thank you Harman.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The little speaker that could. These speakers physically look smaller than their actual measurements but they sound like a much larger speaker when in use. The 220 replaces the 130 in the height position in my home set up. Both the 220 and 130 have 4" drivers but the 130 speaker itself was roughly 4" taller than the 220. I bought the 220's without much expectation about them performing better than the 130's or "wowing" me by any means. Honestly I bought the 220's so the height speakers would blend better appearance wise with my JBL 235c speaker and be a little less bulk on the wall. Plus I'm a diva and I love to shop :P Anyways, the moment the first audio signal was sent to the 220's they opened up and projected better than my well broken in 130 speakers did. These little stylish black boxes pump out serious sound. There is noticeably more content coming out of the 220's vs 130's in both movies and music. I was "wowed" by the additional content and clarity while listening to music that the 220's deliver than my 130's could not. At 8lbs a piece the 220 is easily wall mountable and with its small stature calls little attention to itself but when the sound is kicking believe me, you'll know they're there ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding sound. I have had JBL speakers for years. When I needed a pair of surround speakers for my home theater system, I decided to go with the Studio 220. It was an outstanding choice! Excellent sound from a nicely sized package. The cabinet also compliments the decor in my den.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Parfait pour une écoute de proximité Je les aient placées sur une étagère juste en arrière des moniteurs de mon PC. Son très précis dans tout le spectre. Pour mon cas, pas besoins de caisson de basses même pour les films

which is the power consumption of both speakers?

Asked by: santos10
Hi! Power consumption is the amount of power an electrical component draws from it's battery or power outlet. Being that the STUDIO 220 is a passive speaker, it does not have a Power Consumption rating. It can handle up to 125 watts of audio power, but the power consumption comes from the amplifier or receiver that is driving the speaker. You can get this specification from the amp or receiver manufacturer.

Will these speakers work with a McIntosh 1700? Also, I have a Harmon/Kardon AVR 25 and I need speakers for that receiver also if these would also work for the Harmon/Kardon. Thank you for your help.

Asked by: honeyjean
The Studio 220 handles up to 125W at 8 ohms. If the McIntosh drives between 20-125W at 8 ohms then it would work with the Speaker. The AVR 25 also works with the speaker since it drives 75W at 8 ohms.

With the 220's lower sensitivity (86 dB), would a 20-watt amp be enough to power these for listening to music (no HT) at medium volume?

Asked by: Jeffree
Yes, It can still work if you got a 20W Amp since the Studio 220 can be powered up within 20W-125W.

Hi I have just upgraded system with the addition of the Studio SUB 260P. Have a Control Now as a centre speaker and Control Ones as the L, R Surround R and L and Rear Surround R and L. Would it be worth upgrading the L and R to these?

Asked by: Dale2017
Hi, and thank you for supporting JBL! Your Control Now and Ones are fine speakers, but the Studio 2 models are better. Before upgrading some of the channels, do bear in mind that it is also important to have a fairly uniform audio balance from all channels, so you may consider going for Studio 2 speakers in all channels at some time.
